GOD that was a really good episode and also a great decision on the crew to have tgis episode start out the week. Everyone is focusing on pearl and amethyst rn but like the thing I cant get out of my head is GARNET!!!! GARNET GARNET GARNET!!!!!! GOD anyway so this is p lengthy so feel free to scroll past

from my observation ( watching the ep three times in a row, as i usually do lmao) garnet was so upset for pearl taking advantage of her, like obviously since garnet herself is a monogamous relationship, garnet probably looks at fusion with pearl/amethyst in a professional, strategic way as we can see with her clearly strategy-based decision to form sardonyx rather than sugilite. However, from pearls comment “Its been such a long time”, we can see that garnet and pearl have not fused in a long, long time; perhaps even prior to meeting amethyst, and definitely before meeting greg (ill talk about why im so sure about this later).

Both garnet and pearl had forgotten how great it felt to be sardonyx, and I cant blame them! Sardonyx looks like she’s having the time of her life, and is extremely powerful in a concise way rather than brute force like sugilite. However, sugilite and sardonyx are similar in the fact that most of the strength aspect of the fusion probably comes from garnet (also, both of their names start with ’s’, but that doesnt really matter.) Im sure garnet has probably noticed this, as well as amethyst. Pearl probably does feel that fusing with garnet gives her a power she isn’t capable of possessing on her own or even with other gems, but she’s not conscious of it. What I think Pearl enjoys the most from her fusion with garnet is the feeling of PROTECTION and VALIDITY. The reason I say sardonyx hasn’t been formed since before the gems met greg is because of pearls relationship with Rose. Rose made pearl “feel like everything”, and if the ‘Defective Pearl’ theory turns out true, then rose was probably the first one that made pearl feel like she was actually valid and worth anything (we can see her self esteem issues clearly in Coach Steven, incidentally) After rose is gone, however, pearl hasn’t grown out of needing someone to protect her and validate her. That’s where garnet, and most of the pearlnet reactions, come in.
