if you insist that Jasper is gender neutral, gender fluid, or any other non-binary option, and insist on using “they” pronouns, but don’t do that with literally ANY OTHER GEM ON THE SHOW, then you are a sexist asshole.

Because you are saying that all the other Gems are allowed to at least present in a female way because they are sufficiently feminine in some way.  Space Lesbians, and “she” and “strong ladies” and “bird mom”, and then when you get to Jasper you say “they” and “They’re not gender binary” then it’s not really about making sure that people recognize the non-binaryness of the Gems.

It’s about saying that the gruff, large, more masculine Gem is not feminine enough to get the exact same treatment of every other Gem.

And that is FUCKED UP, because yeah, Gems are non-gendered, and maybe the Crystal Gems are more binaryish because they’ve been on earth so long (and Rose clearly loved earth culture, and that would include gender to an extent, probably).  But you’re also calling Lapis a girl.  You’re also calling Peridot a she.  They’re both more feminine in design and voice.  But Jasper has a low gruff voice.  Jasper is big and not built in a way we’re trained to think of as “feminine”, so Jasper gets called “they”?

No.

If you call Jasper “they”, you should be calling EVERY SINGLE GEM “they”, because they all are from the same planet with the same lack of gender.  And if you don’t, I know it’s because you’re basically saying Jasper’s not girly enough to be a woman, which is 1000000 levels of bullshit, so fuck right off.
